Who we are
Nantucket Jet Charter arranges private charter flights to and from Nantucket, and to the rest of the Northeast and beyond from Nantucket Memorial Airport (KACK). You tell us where you need to be and when. We find the aircraft, we confirm who is operating it, and we stay with the trip until you are on the ground at the other end.
What we arrange
On-demand private charter is the core of it: one aircraft, one trip, confirmed with the operator, with your advisor handling the details from the terminal to the destination. We also arrange:
- Group and corporate charter for companies, teams and large parties
- Aircraft sales and acquisition for clients considering ownership
- Aircraft management for existing owners
- Air cargo charter for time-critical freight
- Non-emergency medical transport for passengers who need medical support on board
- Wheelchair-accessible flights, ground transportation and in-flight catering
Flying into Nantucket
Nantucket Memorial Airport is three miles southeast of town and it is the island’s only airport, so the choice most clients are really making is the aircraft and the timing rather than the field.
The main runway, 6/24, is 6,303 feet long and 150 feet wide. Runway 6 carries a 538-foot displaced threshold, so the landing distance available on that end is 5,765 feet rather than the full 6,303. The second runway, 15/33, is 4,500 by 100 feet. Both are asphalt and grooved, and both are in good condition. There is an ILS approach to runway 6 and to runway 24, which matters on an island where the weather can close in quickly.
The tower runs on a seasonal schedule: 6:00 in the morning until 10:00 at night from May 15th to September 30th, and 6:00 until 9:00 at night from October 1st to May 14th.
The two things worth knowing before you book
Aircraft with more than nine passenger seats need two hours’ prior permission. That covers most midsize and larger charter jets, so it applies to a good share of what we arrange. It is not an obstacle — it is a phone call to the airport, and your advisor makes it — but it is the reason we ask for your timings early rather than on the day.
For comparison, Martha’s Vineyard requires prior permission twenty-four hours in advance. If you are booking at short notice and either island would do, Nantucket is the one that can take you.
There is no customs on the island. An international arrival clears on the mainland first. Cape Cod Gateway Airport (KHYA) at Hyannis is the nearest customs landing rights airport, and Martha’s Vineyard has no customs either, so hopping between the islands does not solve it. Tell us in the very beginning if your trip starts abroad and we will build the clearance into the routing.
The season
Nantucket in July and August creates the busiest general aviation markets in the country, and ramp and parking space are the main constraints on a peak weekend rather than aircraft availability. It is best to ask early for a summer date, and even earlier for a holiday weekend.
In winter the island empties, and the tower closes at 9:00 in the evening. Martha’s Vineyard closes at 5:00. For a winter island trip that four-hour difference is worth knowing.
How we work
Every flight we arrange is operated by an FAA-certified FAR Part 135 air carrier, or by FAR Part 121 for airliner-size and large group trips. Part 135 is the FAA’s set of rules for on-demand, for-hire charter. It carries stricter operating, crew and insurance requirements than FAR Part 91, which are the rules for private, non-commercial flying that cannot be sold as charter.
Before a trip is confirmed we check the operator’s certification and safety history, and we confirm the pilots are experienced and current on the aircraft type you will be flying on. There is more detail on our safety and vetting page.
